Australian State to Ban Sugar-Based Beverages in Hospitals

On June 8th, Australia?s state of New South Wales (NSW) announced that in all hospitals in order to combat increasing obesity, sit will ban sugar-based beverages.

Xinhua news agency reported that the move comes as part of NSW Healths Make Healthy Normal campaign, which aims to achieve a 5 percent reduction in overweight and obesity rates in adults by 2020. According to a health advocacy and charity group, the NSW Heart Foundation, 1 in 2 adults and more than 1 in 5 children in the state are obese or overweight, which dramatically increases the risk of a wide range of chronic health conditions including cardiovascular diseases, stroke, type 2 diabetics and some cancers.
